A new sauna and steam room for Ocean Spa.
A complete renewal of the sauna and steam room at Napier City Council's Ocean Spa, right on Marine Parade.
Napier's Ocean Spa sits right on Marine Parade, and its old sauna and steam room had done their time. Napier City Council put the renewal out to tender in 2021, and FinnSauna won the job.
We took it right back to the concrete: out came the old sauna, the steam room and the glass partitions. New falls and waterproofing, new walls, new ventilation, and new power and plumbing from the plant room. The sauna and steam room were designed with Harvia's team in Estonia, made to measure in Europe and shipped to Napier, all in the middle of COVID.
The sauna is lined in Finnish thermo-aspen with thermo-pine benches, a big 22 kW Harvia Virta Pro heater and soft LED light behind the backrests and under the benches. Next door, the steam room has curved mosaic benches, a fibre-optic starlit ceiling and a Harvia steam generator with an aroma pump.
For us, it's a textbook example of what can be achieved when there is good communication, understanding and trust between the customer and the contractor.
Out with the tired old sauna and steam room, in with a pair built for a busy public spa for years to come.
On schedule, under budget, and built to last.

The workmanship and knowledge you and your team presented while undertaking this project was amazing right from quoting to the project handover.
On behalf of Napier City Council, I would like to express our sincere admiration for the amazing efforts you and your team presented while undertaking the Ocean Spa – Sauna & Steam Room project.
The design and material delivery went great with minimal delays despite COVID-19 disruptions. The most notable thing was noticed while your team was onsite undertaking the demolition and installation. This was completed on schedule and under budget but to a very high-quality finish.
We have received numerous amounts of positive feedback from customers with one saying “This is the highlight of my week, being able to relax in the amazing sauna after a hard week, it’s the best”.
We look forward to undertaking more work with FinnSauna in the future.
