Wood heat, a big window and room to stretch out.
A good-sized sauna with a wood-fired Inari heater, a big window and a lower bench made for resting after the heat.
A nice job not far from us, in Mangawhai. It's always good to build a decent-sized sauna, and this one runs on a wood-fired Inari heater.
We built the benches in our workshop first. They turned out really well, with a large platform on the lower bench: an excellent place to rest after the heat. Open the door to let the sauna dry out, and take your time to settle and cool off.
Before the heater went in, we gave it its first heating outdoors, without the stone cage. That lets the protective paint and any oils and residues from the factory burn off, so the smoke and smell stay outside, not in the brand-new sauna. Once it had cooled, in it went.
The benching is treated with Supi Sauna Wax, so the owners will be enjoying this sauna for decades to come.
A proper wood-fired sauna, with room to lie back and cool off after the heat.
Heat, then rest.
The sauna
- Wood-fired Inari heater with a stone cage
- First heating done outdoors, so factory paint and oils burnt off outside
- Benches built and test-fitted in our workshop
- Large lower-bench platform for resting after the heat
- Big picture window looking out over the paddocks
- Benching treated with Supi Sauna Wax
Same seven stages as every build.
