From Tauranga and the Mount to Katikati, Te Puke and Rotorua, the Bay of Plenty is made for a sauna: hot days, cool evenings and plenty of outdoor living.
One of our favourite builds here is a kiwifruit grower's sauna. He started out wanting a traditional sauna and decided partway through that he wanted the best of both, so one end of the room got infrared panels. It's lined in spruce with abachi benches, the old-school pairing, and the stones sit on a perforated plate above the elements so the heater lasts longer.
We've also worked on saunas for holiday parks and homes around the region, and we're always happy to quote on beach houses and lifestyle blocks.
Saunas, steam rooms and hybrids.
Every room we build is designed for its space. That might be a standalone outdoor sauna, a sauna in the pool house, a corner of the garage, or a compact sauna built into joinery. We also build steam rooms and hybrid saunas with a traditional heater and infrared together, and wood-fired saunas where there's no power to spare.
Benches are made and test-fitted in our Auckland workshop, then the room is built on site with Finnish and Estonian sauna timber and Harvia heaters we import ourselves. Behind the walls it's the same every time: proper insulation, a real vapour barrier, heat-rated cable and good ventilation.
Beach, orchard or lake.
A lot of Bay of Plenty saunas end up outdoors: next to the pool, on the deck, or as a standalone sauna on a lifestyle block. Out on an orchard or near the lakes, a wood-fired sauna can make a lot of sense.
Near the coast, salt air and strong sun are hard on outdoor timber. We choose materials and finishes to suit, and benches are always treated with Supi Sauna Wax, never lacquer.
We prepare everything we can in our Auckland workshop, so the time on site is quick and tidy.
Servicing, repairs and upgrades.
We service saunas whether we built them or not: worn-out stones, tired benches, heaters that take forever to heat, poor ventilation and smells. A new heater or a set of fresh benches can make an old sauna feel new again.
