Saunas in Waiheke

Custom saunas for Waiheke homes.

Waiheke is one of our favourite places to work. Big views, outdoor living and a sea to cool off in: it's hard to think of a better spot for a sauna.

We've built five saunas on the island. For a fellow Finn we built a standalone sauna with its own relaxation area, heated by a Harvia Finland wood-burning stove. In Oneroa we built a thermo-alder sauna with a 16 kW Harvia Virta Pro heater and Wi-Fi controls. And in 2025 we built two saunas at one property with the builder there: one electric, with a Harvia Legend heater, an illuminated safety rail and fibre-optic lighting, and one wood-fired, with a Harvia Linear 18 stove and flue. Both are lined in thermally modified alder.

We also supplied the Harvia Finland stove and stones for the fellow Finn's sauna before the build started.

What we build

Saunas, steam rooms and hybrids.

Every room we build is designed for its space. That might be a standalone outdoor sauna, a sauna in the pool house, a corner of the garage, or a compact sauna built into joinery. We also build steam rooms and hybrid saunas with a traditional heater and infrared together, and wood-fired saunas where there's no power to spare.

Benches are made and test-fitted in our Auckland workshop, then the room is built on site with Finnish and Estonian sauna timber and Harvia heaters we import ourselves. Behind the walls it's the same every time: proper insulation, a real vapour barrier, heat-rated cable and good ventilation.

Local

Island builds, done properly.

Building on an island takes a bit of planning. Benches are made and test-fitted in our Whangaparāoa workshop, timber and heaters are packed to go, and we come over on the ferry ready to build, so the time on site is short.

Salt air, wind and sun are hard on outdoor timber, so we choose materials to suit. Thermally modified alder is a favourite on the island: it holds its colour and shape, and stands up to the coastal weather.

Wood-fired or electric, both work well here. A wood-fired sauna needs no big power supply; electric can be switched on from your phone on the ferry home.

Already have a sauna?

Servicing, repairs and upgrades.

We service saunas whether we built them or not: worn-out stones, tired benches, heaters that take forever to heat, poor ventilation and smells. A new heater or a set of fresh benches can make an old sauna feel new again.

Questions

Common questions.

Do you build saunas on Waiheke Island?

Yes. We've built five saunas on the island, wood-fired and electric, and we bring everything over on the ferry ready to build.

Is there extra cost for building on Waiheke?

Ferry and travel are added at cost and shown in your quote up front.

Wood-fired or electric for a Waiheke sauna?

Both work well. Wood-fired needs no big power supply and gives you the fire; electric is quicker and can be switched on from your phone.

Do you service saunas on Waiheke?

Yes, including saunas we didn't build: stones, benches, heaters and controls.
